This January, Riverviews Artspace welcomes Rick Hughes for his month long pop up exhibit, Art with Heart in The Rosel H. Schewel Gallery and Theater (Studio 109).
Hughes is the director of WarmStreets, a local non-profit dedicated to serving the homeless and near homeless of Central Virginia. His artwork is digital mixed media, utilizing digital art and photography. 70% of each work sold will go towards WarmStreets’ efforts to aid the homeless in our community.
For the duration of the exhibit, a donation kiosk will be set up at Riverviews Artspace specifically for socks for the area’s homeless. Please be sure that socks are new and packaged in order for donation to be accepted.
Art with Heart is on view beginning January 3rd through January 24th in the Rosel H. Schewel Gallery (Studio 109). Riverviews Artspace’s galleries are free and open to the public from 12pm to 5pm Wednesday through Sunday.
Rick Hughes in his own words:
”As far as my artwork, it's in private collections in Germany, France, England, New Zealand as well as various states. I have some works in the permanent collection of the National Art Museum in Kazakhstan. Lots of local orgs [sic] have my work. This year the Junior League of Lynchburg commissioned a work from me and I have received commissions from individuals as well. Work has been displayed in various local galleries and restaurants, including Riverviews Artspace, Lodge of the Fisherman and Bedford Social Club.
Most of my work is digital mixed media, incorporating digital photos with digital painting and digital 3D renderings. I especially enjoy making unreal objects appear real and real objects appear to be fantasy. Recently I've worked in acrylic, focusing on dance movement, since I'm a big fan of ballet. I also enjoy photography.”
WarmStreets serves the homeless and near homeless in Central Virginia.WarmStreets serves the homeless and near homeless in Central Virginia.
We serve the homeless and near homeless no matter their life choices or probable future choices.
The homeless are part of our community, not separate. Community members take care of each other. We partner with houses of worship, organizations, businesses, schools, individuals and groups on social media and mass media.
We are 100% volunteer.
We work in support of organizations that work with the homeless and near homeless.
We do not seek nor receive government support for ourselves.
We think and act outside the box, mainly by networking and crowdsourcing.
We provide ways for the entire community to be a part of serving.
