Artist Statement:

Nature has always been a refuge for me, a peace offering from life. When I find myself overwhelmed or despondent at the state of the world, I can find solace in the color of a leaf or the movement of a bird. And when things become truly desperate, I imagine worlds where animals go around dressed in hats or jackets or bowties; or where a person can walk, completely alone, for miles through flowers. This world is formed from the delights of children’s stories, poetry, philosophers, and novels. 

People become very caught up in art having to make a major point about the state of the world, and while I admire those who do that with their art, that is not why I am here today. I am merely here to offer light and solace in these dark times. I have found that in order to muster the energy to soldier on in the other areas of life and to do our other important tasks, we must make time for whimsy… and wanderings.

Bio:

Lynchburg based illustrator and artist, Abigail Follmer, holds a B.A in Theatre Arts: Production, and can be found cuddling 1-3 cats at any given moment. While her love of theater remains, life has pulled her in a slightly different artistic direction. In the last year, she has completed freelance work illustrating a children’s book, created surface pattern designs for her brand, Jo&Co Art, on Redbubble, and done graphic design work for a number of creative projects around town. In her spare time she enjoys birdwatching and nature photography.
