Artist Statement:
My art is a conversation.
It is my attempt to speak to you.
To offer you a statement of who I am –
And what I think.
It’s a feeling or a judgement or a moral question.
I don’t have answers, nor do I really want them.
It’s the discourse that makes art –
The conversation between artist and viewer.
The invocation of your reaction to my expression of self.
Whether you find my work pretty or moving or mediocre -
If you felt anything at all we have connected and conversed
And learned something about each other and ourselves.
I look forward to chatting with you again and again and again.
Artist Bio:
Julie was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Lynchburg VA where she still resides. She draws inspiration from the world around her and translates her vision using acrylics on canvas. She is a self-taught artist with no formal training, who began painting about ten years ago on a dare.
Julie continues to learn every day, and her latest body of work catalogues her progression with the pallet knife as painting tool. She finds the challenge of mastering new techniques a frustrating and joyful adventure. She has particularly enjoyed the textures associated with pallet knife use, and the looseness of body and brush needed to make it work.
