Introduction and post-screening Q&A with director Joseph Krakora.
Journey into the secrets of illusion with host Al Roker (“Today”) in the one-hour film, Empire of the Eye: The Magic of Illusion. Roker takes viewers on a cinematic exploration of the birth of perspective during the Renaissance at a time when people’s understanding of the world and how they perceived themselves was dramatically changing. Using advanced graphic technology from the wizards at Industrial Light & Magic, the film allows viewers to see these masterworks in new ways and discover how we see what we see — or what it is we think we see.
Empire of the Eye: The Magic of Illusion is a production of The National Gallery of Art in association with Perspective Pictures and presented by WETA, Washington D.C. Funding for this program is provided by The Arthur Vining Davis Foundations and The Annenberg Foundation.
