The epic genre has been around for thousands of years but in the 20th century, it saw a new day. VCCA Fellow Brian Culhane, in residency from Seattle, WA, will discuss the evolution of the traditional epic hero, from Homer to Wordsworth to Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Culhane received his MFA in poetry from Columbia University and his Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Washington where he studied the epic tradition.
