Come out to Riverviews Artspace for our first ever Dilla Day! Blackwater Branding, Speakertree Records, The Listening, and Riverviews Artspace are joining forces to celebrate the life and work of the man, the master, James Yancey a.k.a. J Dilla.
James Yancey was born and raised in Detroit, his work in hip-hop and beat making changed the face of contemporary music in and outside of the hip-hop world. He both worked with and influenced musical groups such A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, The Roots, The Pharcyde, Common, and many more. Please come join us and learn about J Dilla, his work, and his effect on the music world.
The day will feature a variety of educational and creative programming: Free Sampling and Beat Making Workshops, Free J Dilla Documentary Showing and Discussion, and an Homage Concert featuring Canvas Collective and more.
