CINDY VENER ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork is all about the colors I see around me. Whether in my studio or en plein air, the first thing that interests me is color. The challenge is how to translate what I see into something that will attract the viewer’s attention and let them enjoy viewing it regardless of the subject matter. I paint a variety of subjects from landscapes to abstracts but the consistency comes from color and texture.
More recently, working with a palette knife and cold wax has allowed me to experiment with new textures and layering color. I also have moved to painting abstracts en plein air, using the shapes and colors of the scenery to inspire my work.
Cindy Vener is an artist and freelance graphic designer. After 30 years in the corporate world as an actuary and researcher, she left in 2009 to pursue her art full time.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, she has lived in Lynchburg, Virginia for over 30 years. She began painting twenty years ago as a hobby and it quickly became one of her passions. She has studied oil with Rosalie Day White and has attended the Summer Artists Program at Nimrod Hall, Bath County, VA, studying with Laura Loe, Sara Linda Poly, Andras Bality and Diego Sanchez. She has also taken art courses at Sweet Briar College and Lynchburg College.
Cindy Vener’s paintings are inspired by nature and the landscapes of both Virginia where she lives and from her travels. The Impressionists, her love of gardening and the joy of experimenting with a bold color palette influence her style.
